Ran From One Side Of The Street
When my love told me he passes out Kleenex at the NYC marathon every year, I thought it was weird. Kleenex? How does he do that? What about water or something more practical? Well, I was so wrong. I joined him this year to hand out Kleenex and it was a wonderful experience. I now see clearly why he’s been doing it for the last six years. I’ve never seen people more thankful and excited to get a Kleenex in my life. Runners literally ran from one side of the street to the next just to get a Kleenex.
I Heard Thank You In Many Languages
People say New Yorkers are rude however, that was not true today at all. Every person who took a Kleenex said thank you, as a matter of fact, I heard thank you in many languages including merci beaucoup, grazie and gracias. I also heard heartwarming sentiments like, “I love you, God bless you, you are amazing, what an amazing idea, how’d you know I needed that and I’m so happy to see you and this box of Kleenex.”
Of Course, I’m Keeping Him
I had to give credit where credit was due. When one bystander asked me what made me do it, I pointed to my love and told her it was his idea. She said, “Make sure you keep him. He’s a good one!” Of course, I’m keeping him! He has an amazing heart. As our supply ran low, bystanders bought us more Kleenex. Everyone thought it was a great idea and wanted to support. And they say New Yorkers aren’t nice! Something about being out there with my love and the energy from the runners made me like being in New York all over again. There’s something about New Yorkers when we come together for a good cause that’s infectious and energetic. What a feeling!
It’s The Little Things
When all was said and done, it was twelve boxes later and we were all out of Kleenex. As we ended the day, the one thought that came to mind was this; if you want to feel better about life and about yourself, go out and do something for someone else. Serving others is the way to go. Supporting others is the way to to. Giving of ourselves is the way to go. Extending kindness to others just because is definitely the way to go. Today, I met so many people, cheered on lots of runners and gave out a simple Kleenex tissue that made all the difference in the world. Sometimes, it’s the little things that make the biggest difference.
Give away your life; you’ll find life given back, but not merely given back—given back with bonus and blessing. Giving, not getting, is the way. Generosity begets generosity.” Luke 6:38 MSG
Something to think about…
What say you? When was the last time you gave of yourself?
