My One Resolution For 2016
December 31, 2015 Random Thoughts

I’m Not A Resolutions Girl
We are at the time of year when people are in resolution mode.  All sorts of resolutions are being made; lose weight, save for a home, pay off debt, join a gym, drink more water, stop drinking alcohol and so on and so forth.  I’m not a resolutions girl.  Can’t remember a time when I sat down and wrote out a list of New Year’s resolutions.  This year is different.  My one resolution for 2016 is this:

You Are The Strongest Person You Know
Something so heinous and vile happened in 2015 that changed the course of my life forever.  In addition to that horrible happening, I went through a season of people turning on me, lying on me and flat out betraying me.  Earlier this year, I watched an episode of the Wendy Williams Show where she tearfully told a story about someone who turned on her.  I felt her story in my chest and I remember crying along with her because I could I relate to every word.  At the end of her story, she said, “When people turn on you, that’s when you pull your boots up even higher and show em.  If somebody is turning on you, don’t retreat. Don’t get weak.  You are the strongest person you know.”

Standing Stronger Than Ever
Well, I can’t pull my boots up even higher or do any of that if I’m stuck remembering the past.  If I don’t forget those things which are behind, I will never get ahead to all God has for me and he has a lot for me.  I always knew that however, 2015 confirmed it.  Every devil on earth rose up against me to keep me from all God has for me yet I’m still here standing stronger than ever.

Start Forgetting Today
On the road to forgetting, I have to distance myself from certain people for a while, maybe forever and love them from a distance because they are a constant reminder of what I need to forget.  Last New Year’s Eve, my pastor talked about 3 things to remember and 3 things to forget as we start a new year.  One of the three things we must forget is:

  1. Forget what people have done to you.  This is a hard one depending on what was done and who did it.  In Psalm 55:12-14, David says, “If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide.  But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship.”  The depth of David’s hurt came from who hurt him.  He could take the hurt if it came from an enemy but the hurt came from his closest friend.  It may take the rest of my life to forget the horrible happening of 2015 but I resolve with Gods help to start forgetting today.  The best is yet to come!

Something to think about…

  1. Lovely Post! When somebody wrongs you—either by accident or on purpose—it can be hard to get over it. You may never be able to reconcile with the wrongdoer, but forgiveness is divine and it gives you a chance to be a better person.
This #quote from Mother Teresa sums this up better than I am able to articulate it.

People are often unreasonable, illogical, and self-centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, they may accuse you of having selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway. If you are successful you will win some false friends and true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may #cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the #world the best you’ve got anyway. You … see, in the end, it is between you and God; It was never between you and them anyway.”

    • @Ezar,

Thanks for reading and sharing the timely quote from Mother Teresa. I’ve forgiven everyone involved not for them but for me because like you said, it gives me a chance to be a better person.

      Happy New Year!

  2. Very inspirational. I will remember to forget in 2016.
