Does Single = Lonely?

lonelyGood Times
A girlfriend sent me a video today from Good Times and I couldn’t help but share it with you. Good Times was one of my favorite shows back in the day. The family structure that Flo and James created with their children mirrors the household I grew up in with my eight siblings. It did my heart good to hear the advice Wilona shared back then about her single life. Its as relevant today as it was back then. Here’s what she says in a nutshell:

“Flo, listen to me…I got a strong feeling you are counting on a wedding…you make it seem like the life I have is so bad. I got a good life and I’m enjoying myself. Where is it written that every woman’s got to be married or she’s a nobody? It’s really funny. A man over thirty who’s unmarried, the world calls him a swinger. A woman over thirty who’s unmarried, they call her an old maid. Now, I’m not knocking families and kids, but that is just not my bag. There are different strokes for different folks that’s all. Please don’t worry about me ’cause I am fine. I’m alone sometimes, but there’s a big difference between being alone and being lonely.  And the one thing I ain’t is lonely.”

Disease Cured by Marriage?
While I’m a huge fan of marriage and family, I don’t believe for one second that singleness is a disease cured by marriage.   Being single does not ever have to equal being lonely.   It is my hope that every single woman watching this gets out there and lives an amazing life exercising all of her freedom to do all that she was put here to do, be all that she was put here to be and have all that is here for her to have while using her God given talents and abilities to make a difference in the world.

Remember, you don’t have to be with someone to BE someone!

Something to think about…

Thankfully my happiness is not determined by my relationship status. There are a lot of miserably married people. No thanks to that. I’m happily single and not lonely. Thanks for the Good Times throw back video. LOVE them!
