Stairway to Heaven

Set the Tone
Every New Years Eve you can find me in church.   This year was different.  I decided to do something else.  My year ended peacefully and began peacefully.  Today I woke up with my mind set on climbing the 282 stairs at the Baldwin Hills Culver City Scenic Overlook.  I wanted to accomplish something major on the first day of the year to set the tone for the rest of the year.

Stairway to Heaven
Climbing those stairs is no small fete.  Its definitely not for the faint of heart.  It requires lots of Cajones to make it to the top.  Once you make it to the top, a breathtaking view of the city awaits you.  I call this climb the stairway to Heaven because I feel so close to God once I get to the top and I see all of his gorgeous handy work surrounding me as I climb.  It’s a beautiful experience!

Go Me!
As I stood at the bottom of the stairs and looked straight up to the top, I gave myself a quick pep talk and took my first step.  Even if I stopped along the way and huffed and puffed like I was on the heels of a major asthma attack, I was determined to make it to the top.  As bad as it looked, it wasn’t bad at all.  I went straight to the top the first time without stopping or huffing and puffing.  I felt pretty accomplished… like I could anything.  Go me!

Seemingly Impossible?
The stairs remind me of life.  As I move into 2013, I know I will face some things that look seemingly impossible however, if I get my mind right, I know I can do it just like I did it today.  Not only did I climb them once, I did three full sets back to back.  I didn’t let the stairs intimidate me.  Don’t let life intimidate you.

Pep In My Step
As I climbed the stairway to Heaven, I bumped into all kinds of people including a seventy eight year old man who skipped along like a teenager.  I was so inspired by him that I had to stop and give him a high five.  He served as major motivation for me.  There was no way I was going to let this senior citizen put me to shame.   His presence put an extra pep in my step.  The same thing will happen for you in 2013.

Source of Motivation
Something or someone will show up to motivate you and keep you going.  It may be a physical person like the seventy eight year old man or it may be a Tweet, a Facebook status update, a phone call, an email, a blog post or something else.  Be on the lookout.  Everything you need to make it to the top will show up for you in 2013.  Happy New Year! So how did you start 2013?

Something to think about…
