Journey Of Wellness
I broke up with my stove this week. Yes, you read that right. From Monday to Friday, I did not use my stove other than to boil water for a hot cup of tea. As I continue on my journey of wellness, it hit me in my spirit at the beginning of the week to eat raw. Well, not raw as in dehydrating food and all that jazz but eating foods that did not require the stove.
Lucrative Business
Now you all know, well maybe you don’t know, I absolutely love cooking and preparing meals; starting with going to the grocery store to coming back home and putting it all together. I like it so much that I’m trying to figure out how to turn it into a lucrative business. Pray for me…
Excellent Steward
This week of no cooking had nothing to do with weight loss although my doctor says the entire population would feel much better and be a lot healthier if each of us lost ten pounds. According to him, we all have ten pounds to lose. My body told me to do it so I listened. Do you listen to your body? Furthermore, my commitment to being an excellent steward over my temple is strong. The Holy Spirit lives in this temple, therefore, I must take great care of it.
Fruit Is Very Filling
So, what did I eat? Fruits, raw vegetables, nuts, and seeds. Each day started off with lots of fruit which I’ve come to learn is very filling. I stopped by my produce guy on Sunday to pick up cherries, mangoes, watermelon, avocados, and plums. Mid week I ran out so I made one more stop to carry me through until Friday; today. Dinner each night was an amazing salad that consisted of a mix of greens, sunflower seeds, shredded beets, shredded carrots, sesame seeds, cucumbers and a host of other goodness.
Energized And Ready
In addition to that, I made guacamole a couple of nights and used my blender daily to make green drinks and smoothies.Was I hungry? Never! My energy level remained high and I was able to make it through physical therapy and gym workouts. In addition to food intake, I made sure to drink at least 70 ounces of water daily and several cups of tea throughout the day. Midweek sometime around Wednesday I wanted a cooked meal but I said a prayer and kept on going.
Physically And Spiritually Fit
While I was on this journey, a great book; The Wellness Revelation arrived in my mailbox. It asks, “Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could embark on a single program that would help you get both physically and spiritually fit while freeing you to pursue God’s dreams and goals for your life?”
Change From The Inside Out
I love the way the author Alisa Keeton; a certified fitness professional and born again Christian combines spiritual fitness with physical fitness. The goal is to change from the inside out. She says, “When you become fit physically and spiritually, you will be better equipped to love and serve others.” The book takes you on an eight-week journey that looks like this:
Week 1 Embrace God’s Purpose, Desire, and Design
Week 2 Be Free
Week 3 Live Out His Purpose For You
Week 4 Rest In His Strength And Sufficiency
Week 5 Renew Your Mind
Week 6 Attend To Matters Of The Heart
Week 7 Be Transformed
Week 8 Press On
Image Of Perfection
Included in the book is a Workout Calendar and a Moving Forward Journal to log food intake. Week 1 starts out by saying, “Humanity is seduced into desiring the perfect body (which, by the way, does not exist) so that we may reflect the image of perfection. Yet, the one true image of perfection is found only in God. We were made in his image, and he is perfection. He lacks nothing. He contains all the parts and is not broken, damaged, or impaired. Through him, our wholeness can be restored. The more we commit to God’s way of holiness, the more whole we will become.”
Seeking God First
Week 1 was a good read. I like the Action Plan questions at the end and I also like the Renew section that zeros in on scriptures to help us along this journey and I absolutely love the Prayer at the end of each week. The Wellness Revelation will challenge you to get fit by seeking God first and foremost. God wants to free you from what weighs you down and keeps you from your marvelous purpose. I will leave you with the opening verse from week one:
Welcome to The Wellness Revelation
Something to think about…
What say you? Do we as a society place more importance on physical fitness over spiritual fitness? How important is it to work on both areas simultaneously? Do you work on both areas? Where do you focus most?

This looks amazing. Not sure I could break up with my stove or oven. Will share!
@Sue,
I cook something almost daily. Trust me, I didn’t think I could break up with my stove until I actually did it. Who knows, I just might do it again. It’s a great way to cleanse and detox naturally.
Thanks for sharing…

@Joanne,
Yes, it is. It arrived right on time. I’d actually forgotten about it and then when I opened it up, I realized that it definitely will help me on my journey to being healthy and fit through foods and God’s word. What a perfect combination.

Yvonne,
I definitely think the world puts much more emphasis on physical fitness and wellness and spiritual wellness is a mere afterthought (if a thought at all). I agree that we need to take care of God’s temple both from a physical perspective AND a spiritual perspective. The two are so closely linked. I join with you in loving fruit. I love veggies too and the great thing is….the more you eat them,the more you crave them 🙂 So glad I stopped by your place!!
Blessings,
Bev xx

@Bev,
I think you’re right. That’s all I see when I scroll social media; emphasis on physical fitness. Spiritual fitness and physical fitness are so closely linked.
We definitely need to give equal attention to both if not more attention to spiritual fitness; seek God first is what it says right?
Thanks for stopping by my place…
